Education and Community Involvement

We want to remind you of the fantastic opportunity to be a judge at this year’s Academic Decathlon event in 2025. As a judge, you will help score students’ speech or interview sections. Your contribution is highly valued, and your support can make a significant impact on our students’ experience.

Don’t forget to mark the date and register. You have the flexibility to choose one or both dates that fit your schedule. Your involvement is greatly appreciated, and it plays a pivotal role in creating a meaningful event for our students.

If you are interested/available, here are some details and a sign-up for our next two major events. I included a google form to help organize all the information in a way that I can access and create some groups to focus on some of the awards.

Two requests in one. One is more urgent (1/18) and the other is for late February-mid March.

Response to both is in this form: https://forms.gle/FnwPcowENFgwFFJE6

  1. As I sent out before break, we are in need of judges for the Middle School league. The event will be in-person at Cato Middle School on Saturday 1/18, from 7:30am until around 3pm. They have 60+ teams in their league, so unless we get enough judges, many of the teams will get only minimal interviews. The person in charge of recruiting/planning the judging is out on medical leave so I am taking her place and would need to get to around 16-20 judges for the event to run things the way I think that they should.

  1. We are doing something different for judging at state this year. We will be following the model from worlds and will be doing all the initial interviews and design notebook scoring ahead of time. We will schedule the interviews for over zoom in the weeks leading up to state. This will be for both middle and high school (up to 80 teams). To make this possible, we will need a larger number of volunteers (or a smaller extremely dedicated group).

The committee may still need volunteers for the standard judging.  Reach out to Kristi Watkins at krwatkins@kern.org if interested.

Contact David Budy (dbudy@sentinelpeakresources.com) for additional details or how to volunteer.
